You cannot separate who you are in essence as a person. The person who goes to the office every day will inevitably bring with him or her, the essence of who they are.
When I changed my attitude many, many years ago, it was also the reason for a huge change in my life. It contributed immeasurably to the success of my career. My outlook was positive. My motto was to be the best I can be. I deeply desired my actions to reflect my Christian faith. My mistakes became stepping stones and instruments of learning. I craved knowledge. I prayed constantly for wisdom. Adversities were mere challenges and a means to stretch my faith. I learned to wait expectantly for God to show me His purpose for a particular situation or challenge.
And I worked hard, very hard. My attitude was reflected in my voice with my customers, and how I treated them. I was very respectful, friendly but firm. I often reminded them of their credit terms. I always advised them that it was my job to make sure that they stayed under those limits. I also let them know that I loved to do my job exceedingly well and I took it upon me to personally excel. I gently but constantly educated new customers and reminded old ones, of Company policy and they went the distance to pay me. To those that became my friends, I reminded them that paying their bills on time brought blessing. My cheque became their priority every month, before any of their other customers. I was strong and firm too with delinquent customers. I also relied on God and He never let me down.
I enjoyed my successes. I enjoyed my work and my interaction with customers. I wielded influence too as I was trusted. I went the distance to help anyone who requested help or who turned to me for advice. My quest for knowledge and learning abounded especially with office equipment and new gadgets. I was at the forefront of changing technology. My computer skills were honed over the years and I always taught others what I had learned.
Credit and Collections can be a super, challenging and fulfilling career. The foundation of your success however, will be your attitude and your sincere desire for truth. Accordingly, if you seek for truth with all your heart, each new discovery, will also impact your attitude.
